CONDOM AND OTHER BARRIER METHODS
Latex condoms (or sheath) afford good protection against pregnancy and
is the best method for "need based" contraception where the sexual intercourse
is not very frequent. Male member has to master the art of slipping it on and checking
non-spillage at the end of intercourse.
In addition to contraception, condoms also protect the male from
sexually transmitted diseases and protect the woman from cervical dysplasia.
Disadvantages and the reasons for males not preferring the use of
condom are: dulling of sensation and spillage of semen due to tearing, slipping or leakage
with loss of penile erection.
Vaginal jellies are now available in India but are not much in vogue
for the time required between insertion and onset of contraceptive action.
