
GENERALIZED ANXIETY
DISORDER
The commonest of the anxiety disorder that is
clinically significant. Slightly more predominant in women, it generally appears between
20 35 years. The symptoms of apprehension, worry, irritability, difficulty in
concentrating, lack of sleep and bodily complaints are present more often than not for at
least six months. Bodily symptoms may pertain to the heart (increased pulse rate and
increased blood pressure), gastrointestinal (increased acidity and nausea) and brain
(headache, near-fainting).
