THE ADVANTAGES OF LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY

Surgery that avoids a major abdominal incision has several benefits. Post –operative discomfort is less, hospitalization is shorter as the patient is mobilized quicker, and the patient resumes normal activities within days rather than weeks. This is not to say that endoscopic surgery will or can completely replace classical surgery.

However, the time has now come where it is important for all surgeons to be in a position to be able to offer their patients the widest therapeutic option ranging from the good old classical operations to advanced endoscopic procedures depending on the circumstances.

At present time however, the financial saving of hospital stay, perhaps, offsets the increased costs of the laparoscopic procedure itself.
