INCIDENCE

The number of women being affected by breast cancer is increasing especially in the major cities of India. Bombay has the highest incidence of breast cancer, with a life-time risk of developing breast cancer being 1 in 28. The cause of the increasing incidence is not known, however there is a suspicion that it is related to a western life-style:

• late marriages
• late age at first delivery
• avoidance of breast feeding, and
• a high fat containing diet

CAUSE

There are many theories regarding the reason for the development of breast cancer. However, the exact cause of breast cancer is still not known.
