MODIFYING RECIPES
Almost all recipes in standard cookbooks
may be adapted to salt restricted diets by making these very simple changes:
- Omit salt in any recipe.
- Substitute low sodium agents whenever baking powder or baking soda are specific. In some
recipes yeast may be substituted.
CHOLESTEROL LOWERING
EATING PLAN
The general guidelines for lowering
cholesterol levels are to limit fat intake and to make sure that the small amount of fat
incorporated in the diet is polyunsaturated. Avoid saturated fats like butter and cream. You should also avoid those foods containing large amounts of
cholesterol (such as organ meats like liver, brains and prawns) and limit eggs to three
times per week.
It is very important to maintain normal
weight. If overweight, a reduction in weight can help lower your blood cholesterol
significantly.
Recipes containing eggs can be used as a
part of the egg allowance per week or polyunsaturated egg mix may be substituted in all
recipes.
